This lab is about Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN). In this tutorial we will discuss about Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Implementation on Cisco Packet Tracer, in last tutorial we discuss about What is Access Control List (ACL) – Configure ACL.

What is VLAN?

A VLAN is any broadcast domain that is partitioned and isolated in a computer network at the data link layer. VLAN is basically used to divide the broadcast transmission.

Resources Required for Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN)

  1. 2 switches (2960)
  2. 12 PC’s

Configure Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN)

  • Connect Switch0 with Switch1

Use Crossover Ethernet Cable to connect same devices. If you are connectivity is correct Green light blinks up.

  • Connect PC0,1,2,3,4,5 with Switch0

Use straight throw Cable to connect PC’s with Switch0. If you are connectivity is correct Green light blinks up.

  • Connect PC6,7,8,9,10,1 with Switch1

Use straight throw Cable to connect PC’s with Switch1. If you are connectivity is correct Green light blinks up.

  • Create VLAN for switch0

Open switch0

Go to CLI mode

Type those command for create VLAN

#VLAN 10

#name Sales

#VLAN 20

#name HR

  • Assign VLAN to switch0 Interfaces

#Interface ra (range) fa(fastEthernet) 0/06(Port no) – (Range Symbol) Fa0/08

#switchport mode Access

#switchport access vlan10

#Interface ra fa0/09 – fa0/11

#switchport mode Access

#switchport access vlan20

  • Create VLAN for switch1

Open switch0

Go to CLI mode

Type those command for create VLAN

#VLAN 10

#name Sales1

#VLAN 20

#name HR1

  • Assign VLAN to switch1 Interfaces

#Interface ra (range) fa(fastEthernet) 0/06(Port no) – (Range Symbol) Fa0/08

#switchport mode Access

#switchport access vlan10

#Interface ra fa0/09 – fa0/11

#switchport mode Access

#switchport access vlan20

  • Switch0 Trunk port

#int fa0/01

#switch mode trunk

  • Switch1 Trunk port

#int fa0/01

#switch mode trunk
